Scientific Programmer

We offer you a unique opportunity to work within New Zealand’s National eScience Infrastructure (NeSI). As part of a collaborative national team, they provide expert scientific programming services to research teams around the country, using one of NeSI’s High Performance Computer systems.

New Zealand eScience Infrastructure is a collaboration of five institutions, including the University of Otago, which work in partnership with the Crown, providing High Performance Computing (HPC), analytics and consultancy services to the NZ Research sector, Government Initiatives/Agencies and Industrial Research. NeSI’s primary aim is to grow the computing and analytics capability of researchers to ensure New Zealand’s future prosperity.

Significant research outcomes have resulted from the use of NeSI platforms and services across several scientific domains including health, biodiversity, biochemistry and geology to name a few. Researchers often depend on advanced HPC capabilities to achieve their goals, and NeSI is at the forefront of this innovation.

The position will be based at the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand within the ITS Division, but you will be working as part of a national NeSI team. There will be a requirement to travel on occasion.

You will spend your time expertly developing, optimising, testing and maintaining science codes and you will contribute to strategies and plans to improve NeSI system utilisation and efficiency for the national research community.

Your communication skills will enable you to work effectively with a range of clients.  Also important is your ability to work well within a national team, manage your time and prioritise tasks.

In return we offer the chance to work for a group committed to high performance computing best practice and excellence, and ongoing staff training.
