This month, NeSI joined the Research Software Alliance (ReSA) as an Organisational Member, expanding our ability to participate in, learn from, and contribute to international efforts advancing the research software ecosystem.

Celebrating its 15th year, the eResearch NZ conference series is coming to Wellington, NZ on 7-9 February 2024.Co-hosted by NeSI, REANNZ, and Genomics Aotearoa, eResearch NZ is the premier national gathering for communities exploring or innovating the ways digital tools and techniques can be used to advance research outcomes.  

Now in its fourth year, NeSI's annual New Zealand Research Software Engineering (NZ RSE) Conference continues to support and grow the community of those who write code and develop applications that enable research. This community includes researchers, software engineers, computational scientists and anyone who writes code, applies software solutions to research problems, or develops applications that enable research.

On 19 July 2023, NeSI will help facilitate a virtual Introduction to Command Line workshop and you are invited to fill out an expression of interest to signal your interest in attending. Selected candidates will receive an email confirming their attendance along with other details for the workshop.Please submit your interest by EOD Wednesday, 5 July 2023.More about this event

ResBaz Aotearoa 2023, a week-long series of digital research skills sessions, has opened registration. More than 40 free and online sessions will run from 26-30 June. All Aotearoa researchers and postgraduate research students from ANY discipline are invited to look at the schedule and register for individual sessions.

NeSI, in collaboration with Genomics Aotearoa, are piloting an advanced workshop on human genome assembly using long-read sequencing platforms.This workshop will be led by members of the Human Pangenome Reference Consortium (HPRC):Ann McCartney (Assistant Researcher, UCSC Genomics Institute) and Julian Lucas (Senior Bioinformatics Systems Analyst, UCSC Genomics Institute).

Digital equity, data in research, partnership-led approaches, and building capability and diversity across research communities were centre stage topics at the 2023 eResearch NZ Conference at Te Whare Wananga o Waikato University of Waikato.
