Job opportunity: Senior Data & Insights Analyst

The Government is looking to equip the research sector for a new period of increased collaboration and growth. There are clear drivers for eResearch infrastructure to enable these future aspirations.

In light of this, NeSI is looking for a highly skilled Senior Data Analyst to partner with the business and lead the design and delivery of business analytics. You will have a direct impact on the delivery of strategic, operational, reporting and product objectives.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

As a member of NeSI’s Business Operations Team, you will work closely with our Collaboration & Integration team to maintain a keen awareness of best practices around data management. You will act as an internal power user and subject matter expert, advocating for enhancements to our data services. You’ll enjoy offering advice and supporting data skills building across the organisation.  

In this role, you will: 

  • Produce accurate data analytics and reporting, support key performance indicators and metrics on services, enable usage reporting to users and customers, and support NeSI promotional activities.

  • Convert operational data into insights while building compelling data stories with stakeholders across the NeSI team.

  • Support relationships between NeSI and other groups and institutions to enhance relationships with trusted and valued data and analysis.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of an organisational data strategy designed to simplify and accelerate data governance, data quality, and internal self-service business intelligence adoption.

Please note, that this is a full-time (37.5 hours/week) permanent position, with a salary range of $105,00 - $125,000 depending on skills and experience.

Our ideal candidate will bring the following:

  • Experience as a data analyst or engineer or similar role with reporting and business analytics experience

  • Experience extracting, manipulating, and validating data

  • Experience building reports and dashboards both with data and commentary

  • The ability to code in Python, and experience using  SQL and Excel A collaborative nature in reporting and presenting data in a visually compelling format 

  • Strong stakeholder management

  • The ability to test reporting solutions to ensure accuracy of information, and understand the benefits of relative levels of accuracy
