Training
National training events and national training community-building is now delivered through REANNZ. Visit the REANNZ website more information about Intro to HPC, Machine Learning workshops, Carpentries workshops, and other Training offerings.
Over 15 years, NeSI built computational capability and shared training expertise within New Zealand’s research communities. We collaborated with research organisations across the country to deliver and develop digital skills training for their staff and students.
The NeSI Training team included specialists in research software engineering, data science, and application support. Through our support of research projects and collaboration with international training and research communities, NeSI worked to develop learning pathways for the wider community that were sustainable and scalable within existing and budding training partnerships.

OpenOnDemand Training Environment
NeSI created an OpenOnDemand training environment service for the national training community. This cloud-based training environment simplified workshop delivery, providing easier access for NZ trainers and researchers. This work continues through REANNZ and we will continue updating this space to enhance the service offerings.
Interested members of the training community are welcome to explore the Training Environment's public repository here: https://github.com/nesi/training-environment
The Carpentries
NeSI was a Platinum Partner of The Carpentries, an internationally successful and recognised programme that teaches foundational coding and data science skills to researchers. Dr Nisha Ghatak, previously with NeSI but now a Research Communities Advisor - Training at REANNZ, is a Carpentries Regional Coordinator for New Zealand and a member of the Board of Directors for The Carpentries.
NeSI was committed to developing a pool of certified Carpentries Instructors in New Zealand in order to enable research organisations to build internal training capacity and address their community needs for computational research skills.
This pool of active Carpentries trainers in New Zealand runs bi-yearly Carpentries Instructor Training courses to onboard new workshop trainers. To learn more about becoming a Carpentries Instructor, please email training@reannz.co.nz.
