Research Community Manager
New Zealand eScience Infrastructure (NeSI) is a collaboration of five institutions, including the University of Auckland, working in partnership with the Crown to provide High Performance Computing (HPC), analytics and consultancy services to the NZ Research sector, Government Initiatives/Agencies and Industrial Research. Our primary aim is to grow the computing and analytics capability of researchers to ensure New Zealand’s future prosperity.
Significant research outcomes have resulted from the use of NeSI platforms and services across several scientific domains including health, biodiversity, biochemistry, climate, weather and geology to name a few. Researchers often depend on advanced high performance computing (HPC) and data analytics capabilities to achieve their goals, and NeSI is at the forefront of this innovation.
Across New Zealand, researchers and research students are seeking new digital research methods and new ways of working with their number one assets – their software-based methods and their data. In this role, you’ll inspire researchers with new ways of doing their research, as well as building communities around data and digital methods. As part of the Engagement team you’ll be pivotal in building research communities of practice around methods, services and data and help researchers map their research problems to NeSI’s advanced capabilities. These communities will serve to engage and inspire researchers, help solve their everyday research problems, and suit the needs of the digital age within which we live.
To succeed in this role you’ll need strong interpersonal skills and be comfortable designing and running events enabling learning and collaboration around data, tools and infrastructure. You’ll be an effective networker and a natural relationship builder and will have a range of skills for working with researchers in areas as diverse as neuroscience, physics, biology and humanities. Added to this will be your understanding of how specific research methods are applied in each discipline and your ability to work in a highly technical environment. Real-world knowledge in the use of blogging, social media and other web tools to build community is also required.
If you’re interested in leading edge technology and scientific research this role may be your next move. Over the past year, NeSI has been central to significant research outcomes including: improving the treatment of heart disease through stent design as well as the design of better wind turbines for more efficient power generation.
These are just two of our success stories. Join us in creating more as we continue to innovate and support the research community in New Zealand and beyond.
