Researcher Support Team Lead - NeSI

NeSI has a brilliant new opportunity for an experienced research computing professional to lead our national Researcher Support team. Based in Auckland and employed with the University of Auckland, you will take on overall management and operational responsibility for the team and its performance. Acting as NeSI’s overarching support coordination and escalation point, you will ensure researcher support maintains high levels of researcher satisfaction, whilst identifying unmet needs and closing researcher feedback loops across teams within NeSI.

NeSI’s Researcher Support team is responsible for supporting researchers using NeSI services and aims to build researcher skills and independence, providing research software application advice and expertise, requirements gathering to inform the design of NeSI’s services, and issue resolution.

This team is the first line of contact for researchers, resolving issues via support desk and face-to-face meetings, supporting researcher workflows and software application needs including customising scripts and installing software packages, building up self-service support channels by creating and maintaining support documentation, supporting routine researcher project lifecycles including resource planning and allocations, engaging in research domain and organisation specific outreach, and lifting researcher skills via delivering training and workshops.

As Researcher Support Team Lead, you work alongside others in computational science consultancy, science engagement & training, platforms engineering, and product management. Together, you are responsible for understanding stakeholders, customers, and users, and delivering the development of our service and business strategies into operations by the wider team. You will be working within a small team located across NZ, sitting within our head office team at the University of Auckland.

This role will suit a candidate looking to develop or enhance team leadership experience whilst maintaining strong technical skills and fostering skills development and sharing across the team. You will be a strong advocate for the ongoing development of user-centred advanced computing services, and take pride in being accountable for NeSI’s support quality.
