On 18 April, Liz Stokes (ARDC) and Nisha Ghatak (NeSI) hosted the first discussion in a series of online gatherings scheduled for the Carpentries communities in Australia and New Zealand.FocusThe aim of the event was to bring together members of both communities across the Tasman to discuss tips and tricks on “Preparing for your first workshop - putting training into practice”. The discussion was spearheaded by two guest speakers, Dr Murray Cadzow (University of Otago) and Dr Valentina Hurtado-McCormick (CSIRO).

NeSI is seeking a Research DevOps Support Engineer to join its national team. This role will connect with research teams across Aotearoa, offering guidance and advice, and helping them optimise their deployments’ availability, security, and effectiveness.Applications must be submitted online by the closing date of 2nd April 2023 to be considered. 

The Australasian Leadership Computing Symposium (ALCS), a unique event for Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia’s high-performance computing (HPC), artificial intelligence (AI) and Data Science communities, is now accepting submissions to present within the scientific streams.

In May 2023, NeSI will be offering a virtual Machine Learning 101 workshop and you are invited to fill out an expression of interest form to signal your interest in attending. Date for the workshop will be announced in Early May.Click here to submit your expression of interest

NZ Carpentry Connect 2023 was originally scheduled to be held in a hybrid format on 14 February, with an in-person component hosted at the University of Waikato | Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato. Carpentry Connect is a local event to bring together trainers, helpers, maintainers and anyone interested in The Carpentries, which is a global community teaching researchers foundational coding and data science skills.

The Carpentries is a global program to teach foundational computational and data management skills to researchers. New Zealand trains several potential Carpentries Instructor trainees every year and it is time to train a new cohort of future instructors.Our next Carpentries Instructor training course will be held virtually in late April 2023, organised by NeSI, the University of Otago, the Institute of Environmental Science and Research (ESR), and Genomics Aotearoa.
